Design Preparation

When contacting a manufacturer, it’s best to have your design finalized or at least have a clear idea of your pin design. What should you consider when designing your pin?

Size: Most pins range from 0.75″ to 2.5″ (ideal for detail and wearability).

If you’re unsure about the perfect size, please show us your artwork, and tell us where you’ll wear or display the pin. We’ll suggest the size that look great and fit your budget.

Colors: Enamel pins use Pantone (PMS) colors for accuracy. Limit colors to reduce costs (soft enamel allows more flexibility).

Artwork Format: Provide vector files (AI, PDF, EPS, or SVG) for crisp lines. That would be great if you can include a high-resolution PNG/JPG for reference.

Pin Backing: Choose from butterfly clutches, rubber clutches, or safety pins, etc.

Pro Tip: Simplify complex designs to avoid tiny details that may not translate well during production. For additional guidance on creating the best design, check out our Enamel Pin Design Tips

Requesting an Accurate Quote

In order to provide you with an accurate quote, please share your order details, including

  • Design files (vector file is the best)
  • Pin size
  • Order quantity
  • Preferred delivery date
  • Any other order requirements

The design of the pin and the order quantity are the main factors that affect the price.

Receive a PI(Proforma Invoice)

Once you accept a manufacturer’s quote, request a Proforma Invoice to formalize the order. This document is essential for ensuring transparency and legal protection. The PI should include these information:

  • Supplier Details: Manufacturer’s name, address, contact information
  • Recipient Information: Your shipping address and contact details.
  • Order details: Pin design description (size, process, backing type, quantity and price)
  • Payment Terms: Total cost, deposit percentage (usually 30–50% for large orders), and payment methods (e.g., PayPal, wire transfer). The remaining balance is typically paid before shipment.
  • Delivery Timeline: estimated delivery date

Once you confirm the invoice, you can proceed with the payment.

Digital Proof Approval

After you’ve made the payment, we will provide a digital proof for your final approval, and you can see exactly how your pin will look. This step ensures your design is accurately translated into production-ready specifications before manufacturing begins.

How to Review the Digital Proof

When you receive the digital proof from the manufacturer, follow these steps to ensure everything is correct before production:

Check the Design Details

Carefully review the artwork, including shapes, lines, and placement of all design elements. Make sure it matches your original artwork.

Verify Colors and Plating

Confirm that the enamel colors (with Pantone codes) and plating (e.g., gold, silver, black nickel) are exactly what you requested.

Confirm Size and Dimensions

Double-check the pin size and proportions to ensure they’re accurate and fit your expectations.

Inspect Text and Fonts

Look closely at any text to confirm spelling, font style, and size: especially important for small pins where legibility matters.

Review Backing Options

Make sure the pin backings (e.g., rubber clutch, butterfly clutch, safety pin) are what you chose.

Ask Questions or Request Changes

If anything looks off or unclear, don’t hesitate to ask the manufacturer for clarification or revisions.

Give Final Approval

Once everything looks good, give your confirmation to proceed with production.

If your order has super‑strict color requirements or fine details, consider ordering a sample to double‑check accuracy before mass production. After reviewing the sample, if you go ahead with a bulk order, we’ll deduct the sample cost from your final total.

Production Process

Once the digital proof is approved, the manufacturer will begin production. You can sit back and relax while the manufacturer takes care of the rest.

  • Mold Creation: A steel mold is crafted based on your design.
  • Metal Stamping or die casting: The pin’s base shape is stamped/casted and polished.
  • Enamel Filling: Colored enamel is applied
  • Plating & Finishing: Common options include gold, silver, or black nickel plating.
  • Quality Control: Each pin is carefully inspected for defects to ensure high quality.
  • Packaging: Each pin that passes quality inspection will be individually packaged.

The production process can vary depending on the type of enamel pin.
